About Siân Barton
After being made redundant in 2023, Siân took the leap into freelancing and embraced the freedom to steer her own career.
With a rich background as a magazine editor, including a stint at Insurance Age, Siân has cultivated a diverse portfolio that spans journalism, content and PR, enjoying every minute of her new path.
Siân's Inspiration
Siân shared with us what inspired her to become a freelancer:
"The freedom and the chance to steer my own ship were tempting me for a long time. Being made redundant gave me the push I needed to embark on this exciting journey."
Siân's Advice for Aspiring Freelancers
Siân shares what advice she would give to others who want to become a creative freelancer:
"One thing I found helpful is having a ready-made network which is a privilege which comes with being a magazine editor – I used to edit Insurance Age.
"Before taking the plunge I would advise anyone to build and nurture their contact base as it’s the best way to get work."
Siân on her Proudest Achievements:
"I’m proud that I've overcome my initial doubts and now constantly have commissions and inquiries coming my way. It's rewarding to be recognised for my capabilities and to keep learning and growing professionally."
